Cumbria’s Alex MacDowall has re-signed to race for the factory RML/Chevrolet team in 2011’s Dunlop MSA British Touring Car Championship.

The 20-year-old from Carlisle was twice on the podium in his debut BTCC season last year and also achieved two outright pole positions in his RML-Chevrolet Cruze as team-mate to eventual champion Jason Plato.

“It’s fantastic to be staying with RML for my second year in the BTCC and I can’t wait to get back behind the wheel of the Cruze and begin preparations for the new season”, announced MacDowall today (Wednesday).

“There were some amazing highlights last year and I learnt so much from RML’s Silverline Chevrolet team and from being team-mate to Jason. The aim for 2011 is regular podiums and, hopefully, wins too.”

Already a British Racing Drivers’ Club ‘Rising Star’, MacDowall has also been invited by the BRDC to be one of just 14 drivers on its prestigious ‘Superstars’ programme. Last month, he enjoyed his first Superstars experience when he took part in a reaction time simulator test at RAF Cranwell in Lincolnshire – home of world renowned aerobatic display team The Red Arrows.
