F3 – Nasr to switch to Carlin

Felipe Nasr will join Carlin’s line-up for the 2011 Cooper Tires British F3 International Series. The 18 year-old, who is already a race winner in the series, will join the reigning champions for an assault on the 2011 title.

Nasr has already completed a successful rookie season in British F3, claiming two pole positions and four podiums including a race win at Rockingham. Despite it being only his second season in single-seater racing, Nasr put in a consistence performance to finish fifth in the championship standings.

Before racing in F3, Nasr competed in Formula BMW Europe, winning the 2009 championship on his first attempt following a dominant run of 14 podiums including five race wins.

Nasr joins the current British F3 champions, the team that have won the championship for the last three seasons. The 18 year-old Brazilian will be hoping to claim Carlin’s seventh title in the British series.

Nasr said: “I am very excited to be racing in British F3 again next season, especially with Carlin who are clearly the team to beat. I learnt a lot this season in F3 and I want to build on that this year and put together a strong championship campaign.”

Trevor Carlin added: “We’re watched Felipe with a lot of interest this year and have been very impressed with his raw talent in his first year of F3. We’ve very pleased to have him in our team for the 2011 season and look forward to seeing what he can achieve with Carlin. I’d imagine that Felipe – alongside some of his team mates – will be a very serious contender for the championship.”

The 2009 Formula BMW Europe champion will get his first taste of Carlin machinery later this month, when he joins his new team for some winter testing in Valencia, Spain.
