BMW Pirtek Racing aim to bounce back from a tough event at Knockhill and challenge for the top step of the podium in the Dunlop MSA British Touring Car Championship at Rockingham this weekend.
With just three events remaining in the 2017 season, Andrew Jordan lies seventh in the Drivers’ Championship after winning in his WSR-run BMW 125i M Sport at Brands Hatch and Oulton Park.
The Lichfield driver, who heads into the weekend carrying 27kg success ballast in his BMW, has a strong record at Rockingham.
He has finished on the podium five times in the past five seasons at the circuit – which uses a unique combination of oval and road courses its layout – and claimed a double victory in 2013 on his way to that year’s BTCC crown.
WSR, who claimed a 250th BTCC podium at Knockhill last time out to help BMW increase their Manufacturers’ Championship lead, have won five times at Rockingham.
The Rockingham triple-header on August 26-27 is the eighth of 10 events in this year’s BTCC, which takes in nine circuits the length and breadth of the country. Each race will be screened live and exclusively on ITV4 in HD.
Andrew Jordan said: “I’m pretty confident of being close to the front at Rockingham, especially after the kind of lap times we were able to produce at Knockhill with the same 27kg ballast in the BMW. Unfortunately, circumstances meant we couldn’t turn that speed into the results we deserved, but if we can have a trouble-free weekend, I’m sure we can be on the podium. Rockingham is a challenging circuit with a good blend of fast, sweeping corners and tight, twisty sections. This makes judging the set-up pretty tough and that’s where having an experienced team like WSR behind me should pay off.”
Dick Bennetts, Team Principal, said: “From a pace point of view, Knockhill went pretty well. It’s just a shame that on-track incidents meant AJ couldn’t translate that into solid results. At Rockingham we start with a clean sheet of paper and a BMW that’s relatively light on success ballast at 27kg. We also arrive in the knowledge that we’ve won here three times in the last three seasons, so we have a very good opportunity to score some strong results, help AJ gain some ground in the Drivers’ Championship and cement BMW’s position on top of the Manufacturers’ points.”
