Andrew Jordan produced BMW Pirtek Racing’s best qualifying performance of the 2017 Dunlop MSA British Touring Car Championship with a stunning front-row result at Oulton Park on Saturday.
The Staffordshire driver, who celebrated the birth of his second child, Sydney, just three days ago, was in imperious form at the Cheshire circuit.
After setting the pace in morning practice, the 2013 BTCC champion set a string of strong laptimes on the challenging 2.3-mile ‘Island’ circuit and only missed out on pole position by one tenth of a second.
Andrew, who lies 11th in the BTCC Drivers’ Championship, aims to deliver a second race victory of the year for WSR-run BMW Pirtek Racing, who lie 10th in the Teams’ points race, and a fifth for BMW, who lead the Manufacturers’ standings.
Sunday’s three races will all be shown live on ITV4 in HD. Race One is scheduled to start at 12:17.
Andrew Jordan said: “I’m delighted to qualify on the front row for the first time since joining WSR. I’ve known all season that the potential was there with the car, but that it was just a case of me becoming really comfortable with the BMW, which is the first rear-wheel-drive touring car I’ve raced. I was feeling pressure to perform today, especially without success ballast, but today we’ve done that and the aim for Race One tomorrow is to win.”
Dick Bennetts, Team Principal, said: “I’m very pleased for Andrew. He’s worked very hard this year to get on top of rear-wheel-drive, which is a skill in itself, and today he’s got the reward BMW Pirtek Racing deserve. Without success ballast in Race One, tomorrow is a big opportunity for him to win and we’ll work hard overnight to make sure we give him a car with which he can do this.”
