Chris Dittmann Racing has confirmed that Formula Renault BARC runner-up Piers Hickin has joined the team to contest the final round of the 2014 BRDC F4 Championship at Snetterton on 25-26 October, partnering Tom Bale at the Gloucestershire-based team.
Hickin, 17, claimed two victories in this year’s Formula Renault BARC championship at Croft and Silverstone, with an additional 10 podium finishes on his way to second place in the standings behind F4 graduate Pietro Fittipaldi.
Hickin made his single-seater debut in 2013 in the same category, finishing 19th overall, competing in four of the six rounds with a best finish of seventh.
Before that, the British racer had made his car racing debut in one round of the 2012 Ginetta Junior Winter Series. Hickin started his career in karting at the age of nine with his first major success coming in 2007 with three Buckmore Park championship wins. Three more titles followed in the Forest Edge Championships across the Honda Cadet and Rotax Mini Max categories, prior to stepping up to race in the prestigious Super One series.
Hickin commented: “It’s a very exciting move and a great opportunity to try something new. The championship has proven itself as a great series for young drivers and I’m looking forward to getting on track. The team have a lot of potential and hopefully I can help them to extract that. I’m sure we will work well together and I am focussed on running at the front at Snetterton.”
Team Principal Chris Dittmann commented: “I’m very pleased to welcome Piers to the team. We tested him a year ago and he showed he is a very capable driver, and he’s really demonstrated his talent with an excellent season in Formula Renault. The car will be new to him, but we’re confident that with our help he will adapt quickly and show some strong front-running pace.”
