Italian Ferrer, who also holds German and Venezuelan nationality, made his car race debut in 2012 in the Intersteps championship, his first year of any form of competitive motorsport. Despite not following the conventional route through karting, Matteo made constant improvements to register three top five finishes in the final round of the season at Croft, and was classified eighth in the final standings.
In 2013 he stepped up to the Formula Renault BARC series with MGR, demonstrating strong pace and consistently delivering top 10 results. He now moves to BRDC F4 with the team for the Winter Championship, partnering F4 race winner Pietro Fittipaldi, and will also contest the Formula Renault Autumn Cup.
Ferrer enthused: “I’m looking forward to racing three consecutive weekends in a row, gaining more on track experience and improving my race craft. I’m also pleased to have the challenge of learning a new car.”
Team Principal Mark Godwin has high hopes for Ferrer’s F4 challenge. “Matteo was a series surprise in Formula Renault this season with such limited racing behind him. I think it’s fair to say that he could be a real contender over the winter.”
The BRDC F4 Winter Championship commences on 9-10 November on the Snetterton 300 circuit in Norfolk. For more information visit www.formula4.com.
