Chris Dittmann Racing have today (15 May) confirmed the signing of 17 year-old karting graduate Dylon Phibbs. The announcement means that a full grid of 24 cars will compete at Brands Hatch this weekend (18-19 May).
Irishman Phibbs will make his car racing debut with the team this weekend, and has been karting since he was four years old with his first race at the age of eight. Most recently he has participated in the Super1 British Championship and Formula Kart Stars having tasted success in the South East Challenge Championship. He was also a front runner in the 2011 British KF3 Championship with Nick Barrett Racing, winning against the likes of Ben Barnicoat and George Russell.
As part of his success, he was invited by Formula One Management to the 2009 Italian Grand Prix at Monza to meet the F1 drivers and Bernie Ecclestone. Dylon is also planning to race in Europe this season.
“It’s very exciting to be joining BRDC F4, with this being my first single seater race at this level” Phibbs exclaimed. “I tested at Brands Hatch last week and my pace looked quick so I’m looking forward to seeing where I am compared to the rest in practice and qualifying this weekend.
“It’s going to be a great atmosphere at Brands Hatch with the DTM also racing there and I can’t wait to get to work with Chris Dittmann Racing.”
Chris Dittmann commented: “I’m delighted to finalise our driver-line up for this weekend. With Luke Williams and now Dylon, we are confident we will be challenging the front runners sooner rather than later. Dylon had a successful test with us at Brands Hatch last Friday and we’re really pleased to welcome him to the team, it’s going to be a great weekend!”
