Cheshire, England – March 15, 2012 – Reigning GT Cup Champions, JMH Automotive, have today announced their return to the Avon Tyres British GT Championshipafter a six-year absence. The team will run a brand-new Nissan GT3 GT-R (R35) with strong support from both NISMO, Nissan’s motorsport division and JR Motorsports, its official partner in the GT3 project.

Contesting the championship in the GT-R will be Benji Hetherington (20), the 2011 Carrera Cup GB Scholarship winner, who last year completed a successful first year in the Porsche Carrera Cup GB, taking eighth place in a highly competitive season.

In addition, Hetherington from Congleton, Cheshire, has raced in the British GT Championship sporadically over the past two seasons in GT3 and GT4 machinery, almost taking a victory in the 2010 season finale at Donington Park alongside Porsche Carrera Cup GB rival, Stephen Jelley.

The Nissan GT-R NISMO GT3 features a 3.8 V6 twin-turbo engine that is based on a standard road car unit, developing 530ps at 6400 rpm. Power is delivered via six-speed transaxle that drives the rear wheels, activated by a semi-automatic paddle-shift system.

JMH MD, Jason Hughes sees the 2012 campaign as the start of an exciting relationship: “This is a hugely exciting opportunity for JMH to work so closely with Nissan. We were looking at a number of options for the 2012 season andthen we begun speaking with the Hetherington’s about their interest in the Nissan project. Nissan are keen to prove a point and their support has been, and will no doubt continue to be invaluable in making this year a success. Benji is a talented driver and has experience of racing in the championship, which is a definite advantage. We’ve got a great package of car and driver and we’re going to push hard for wins in what will undoubtedly be a highly competitive year of racing.”

Driver, Benji Hetherington, adds: “We’re thrilled to be working with Nissan in British GT. Last year I learnt a lot and improved my driving significantly. We’re confident that the Nissan GT3 GT-R is one of the best packages out there and it’s a little different to the Ferraris and Porsches, which really appealed to me. I think we’re definitely going to be competitive and once we’ve got some miles under our belt, we’ll be in a position to challenge for wins.”

The team is exploring a number of new commercial partnership opportunities with interested sponsors.
