German Formula 3 champion Tom Dillmann has joined Carlin for the 2011 GP3 season.
Dillmann is the second reigning champion to form part of Carlin’s GP3 team and will race alongside Star Mazda champion Conor Daly this season.
Dillmann joins GP3 having raced in German F3 last year. The Frenchman enjoyed a dominant season, recording six wins, nine podiums seven pole positions and 10 fastest laps on his way to becoming the 2010 champion. Before racing in German F3, Dillmann raced in the competitive F3 Euro Series
This year, the team’s GP3 drivers will race alongside Carlin’s GP2 team, as Carlin becomes just one of three teams to race in both prestigious categories.
Speaking about his season ahead, Dillmann said, “I am really happy to be racing in GP3 this year. The last three seasons have been very difficult for me due to budget problems but this has only made me stronger as a driver. I am very grateful to have such an opportunity in GP3 this season and have to thank my new management Luxury Racing.
“GP3 offers very relevant experience on F1 circuits and the series has a good profile racing on the F1 support package. For sure with Carlin I have everything I need to make a strong attack on the season and ultimately fight for the title. I’m really looking forward to getting to know the team at the first test in Paul Ricard.”
Trevor Carlin added, “I’ve been impressed with Tom’s race craft having watched him first hand in F3 Euro Series and he beat some very talented drivers to the German F3 crown last year so there’s no denying his talent. I’m delighted that Tom will be with us for the first tests of the season next week. With both Tom and Conor on board already we have a very strong team and I look forward to seeing them in action at Paul Ricard next week.”
The GP3 season will kick off with the first official test of the season this week at the Paul Ricard circuit in France from 3 – 4 March.
