Atech CRS GP has confirmed it’s full 2011 line-up with the announcement that Swiss racer Zoel Amberg will partner Nick Yelloly and Marlon Stockinger in the GP3 Series.
The 18 year-old Formula Renault Champion underwent a successful test at the end of last year and had his first test with Atech CRS GP last week in Paul Ricard in preparation for the opening rounds of the 2011 series, which take place in Istanbul in May.
Zoel graduated from karts to single-seaters in 2009 racing in the Italian and Swiss Formula Renault Championships, finishing fourth and fifth respectively. Last season he contested the Formula Renault 2.0 Middle European Championship, lifting the title with six wins and four second places. He also contested the newly–launched Formula Abarth series in Italy taking victory at the opening round in Misano and an additional eight points–scoring positions to finish seventh in the championship.
The teenager, who now lives in Schachen (Switzerland), will join the David Hayle-led team that was formed last year from a partnership between Atech and Leicester-based CRS Racing. Atech CRS GP Team Principal Hayle confirmed the signing, announcing: “We’re very excited by the prospect of having Zoel join the team, as he looked very good at the tests last season. He joins us on a two-year programme, which adds stability to the plan, and we expect the first season to be a learning year. However, that does not mean we won’t be trying to win right from the start.”
Zoel added, “I am really happy to be part of the Atech CRS GP team and the GP3 series. I worked well with the team and am pleased to have such good support from them and my family and sponsors. I am looking forward to my first season in GP3.”
The Atech CRS GP team will undergo additional testing at Silverstone on 29-31 March, Barcelona 12-14 April and Monza 21 April prior to the opening rounds, in Istanbul, over the weekend of 6-8 May.
