Team Zest is the collaboration between Malcolm Cleland and Ian Goff with the pair planning to run two cars in the manufacturer-supported series. The new team is already close to finalising a deal for their first signing leaving just one seat to be filled. A three-day testing schedule in Spain has also been booked for mid February to aid driver development before the team plans to return to the UK to continue testing.
Goff is no stranger to the Formula Renault BARC paddock having worked in 2010 under the Triple 888 banner while newcomer Cleland is keen to prove himself in the single-seater arena after more than 10 years’ experience in saloon-car racing.
The arrival of Zest now means around 12 different teams and privateers are expected to compete in the championship when the season gets underway at Donington Park on 23rd/24th April with more than 20 cars anticipated to line the start grid.
Speaking on their decision to join Formula Renault BARC Malcolm Cleland said: “Although to some extent 2011 will be a learning year, we’ve certainly not joined the championship to make up the numbers. We’re looking to be amongst the top three by the end of the season together with some race wins under our belt.”
Commenting on the outlook for the 2011 series Cleland added: “The championship is shaping up to be a great season this year and we’re excited to be getting involved and to be able to race in one that promises such strong grids.”
Championship Promoter Simon North added: “Interest is really mounting for the series which this year features a 12-round calendar including a one-off appearance alongside the British Touring Car Championship at Silverstone.
“It’s also very encouraging to see a new team joining our paddock, along with new privateers such as Max Robinson, as the spirit of Formula Renault has always been a strong blend of different types of entrant.”
