Legendary team owner Tom Walkinshaw has died at the age of 64, he had been suffering from cancer

He was highly respected for his achievements with Jaguar in touring cars and in sportscars and running F1 teams, Benetton, Ligier and Arrows. He was responsible for Benetton’s rise to a championship-winning team in the 1990s. But he was best known for winning the European title for Jaguar in 1984, winning three World Sportscar titles, and to triumph at Le Mans in 1988 and 1990.

Tom Walkinshaw also brought Volvo into the British Touring Car Championship, with an estate car and ultimately winning the title.

Financial problems saw both the Arrows team and TWR fold in 2002, but Walkinshaw remained involved in motorsport, running a team in V8 Supercars in Australia.
