This weekend, Peugeot is preparing for another battle with its formidable rival in a bid to secure the inaugural Intercontinental Le Mans Cup at Zhuhai, China. In addition to scoring the points it needs to secure the crown, the team is also targeting victory to back-up its recent one-two finishes in Europe and the USA. Last but not least, Zhuhai will be the final competitive outing for the Peugeot 908 HDi FAP.
A 36-point lead going into the 1000km of Zhuhai
Ever since the beginning of this newly-created championship, Peugeot’s drivers have been engaged in some exciting battles with their rivals, while the technical squad has been called upon to demonstrate all of its strategic abilities. Victory in September’s clash at Silverstone went to Team Peugeot Total’s ‘local’ pairing Anthony Davidson and Nicolas Minassian, while the Oreca-run 908 HDi FAP crossed the line in second place to secure a maximum points haul.
October’s visit to Road Atlanta for Petit Le Mans saw the two factory Peugeots complete another one-two success – led by Lamy/Montagny/Sarrazin ahead of Davidson/Gené/Wurz. As a result, Peugeot provisionally enjoys a 36-point lead over Audi at the top of the ILMC Manufacturers’ standings. An 11th place for either of the two 908 HDi FAPs at Zhuhai would suffice to clinch the inaugural title for Peugeot.
