Romanian driver goes back to Italian squad for 2011 season

Scuderia Coloni picked its first driver for the 2011 season: Michael Herck will take the wheel of one of the two Dallara-Renault cars fielded by the Italian team. A 22 years-old from Romania, Herck will race with Scuderia Coloni both in the Asia and the Main Series. Besides this, the agreement contains a renewal clause for two further seasons, showing that both sides do have a strong belief in this cooperation.

For the Italian team, Herck is undoubtedly an high-profile choice because despite his young age Michael is among the most experienced and consistent GP2 drivers: in 2010 he finished eight times in the top 8, clinching two podium finishes in Valencia and Abu Dhabi.

Paolo Coloni: “We are really happy of having Michael with us for the whole 2011 season. He is a quick and fully grown-up driver, something that he clearly showed in 2010 racing steadily for the top spots and taking podiums. Furthermore he is very experienced and this will be very useful for the team next year: with the brand-new car everybody will start from scratch and I believe that having an experienced driver like Michael with us is an important first step to prepare for a great 2011”.

Michael Herck: “I’m very happy to join back this Team that led me to the debut in GP2, in the 2008 Asia Series. Having worked already together, it will be for sure easier to readapt and start immediately on an high level, and having a new car will give a touch of excitement to this new adventure. Our common goal will be to regularly compete to for the high positions of the standings, and everyone feels committed to this. In particular, after podiums, pole position and best lap in race, I promise to my fans to try to obtain the only thing I still miss: my first victory in GP2”.
